About the Mongan Institute

Brief History

In September 2018, Stephen Bartels, MD, MS, joined as Director of the Mongan Institute. Supported by the Department of Medicine, in conjunction with clinical research leadership at MGH and Mass General Brigham, the Mongan Institute brings together research and training programs related to population and health care delivery research. Vision

To rapidly generate transformative knowledge that improves health care delivery and population health through an integrated program of research and training — spanning data science to delivery science and evaluative science to implementation science — in partnership with local, national, and international communities, collaborators, and health care systems.

2024 Health Disparity Research Report

The 2024 Health Disparity Research Report offers a comprehensive overview of recent and ongoing research at the Mongan Institute. This report includes summaries of 42 published research findings, 49 ongoing research projects, and reflections from 29 faculty members on why and how they became involved in health disparities research.
